Our annual Gilbert & Sullivan show is in the Autumn. Rehearsals for it start in May. The whole company rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings and then twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays from about September. Principals rehearse twice weekly throughout. Rehearsals start at 7.30 pm and finish about 9.45 - 10 pm. As well as singers, we need helpers in all theatre areas and they are made just as welcome. They generally get involved in nearer the date of the show though that depends on the area they are helping with.
If you want to be an acting member, you give a short audition to a small – and friendly! – committee after your first few rehearsals. You choose the piece. Once you have joined and paid your subscription as an acting member and been to at least half the show rehearsals, you are eligible to audition for a principal part in that show if you wish. Those auditions take place about 6 weeks after the Show rehearsals start.
If you are not performing in the Show but wish to participate in the Society, you can join as a non-acting member. There are many backstage and front of house jobs that need to be done. Let us know if you have a special area of interest, or we will find you something.
Subscriptions are decided at our AGM in March. For 2011-2012, they are £20 for acting members and £10 for non-acting members. Students and those on certain state benefits pay half and under 16s are free.
